Paris Potpourri: Week 1

At the risk of boring the masses with a photo dump from my iPhone, I’ll try for some deft curating. It will only be the most important content, like where to get the best salad in Porte de Versailles, how to keep all the gear straight and where to find paprika Cheetos!

Here is a taste of Week 1.

The Snoop Stairs. I finally found them. Yes, that is grass growing on the walls of the Arena Bercy. And no, I don’t know how they mow it.
Paprika flavored, seems very French. The cheese with ketchup flavored seems less French.
Seems to be good advice.
We bring colored tape to help keep everybody’s gear straight.
Why we bring colored tape.
And also why. The photo workroom at Stade de France (track and field).
I’ve had this salad four times already. It’s at Cafe Victoria down the block from our hotel. I’ve decided this burrata is the creme brulee of cheeses. It’s a cloud. Perfect tomatoes, serrano ham, a drizzle of balsamic and covered in pesto. Went there again today before coming to track and field for the men’s 100. I’ll be back.
Team Graphics: Jeremy, Bedel, Dawn and me.
The Times dinner before the Games began.
At the dinner, from right to left, Juliet Macur (gymnastics) Jenny Vrentas (swimming) a woman from the Paris bureau whose name escapes me. Also Andrew Keh and Chang Lee photobombing in the background.
The dessert there other than the flaming creme brulee: meringue, raspberry sorbet, vanilla ice cream and berry drizzle which was translated into English as Red Berry Swim. Also almonds. Next time.
As you can see, my room has a view of the Eiffel Tower. No extra charge.

A pop-up food market in the basement of the Main Press Center. This should be a requirement before cities are awarded the Games.

One more week! Thanks for dining at EatatJoes!

Thanks, as always, for showing us the behind the scenes. The food looks like it’s earning a gold medal. How does it compare to other Games?
