Opening Ceremony

This is my fifth Olympics but last night was my first live Opening Ceremony. It was quite the spectacle. As much as it was a feast for the eyes, the sound of it all was beyond description; a constant pulse of drumbeats. Incredibly loud without being overwhelming.

One seat and one wide angle lens, so all the pictures are framed the same, just the scenes change.

Hope those who watched enjoyed the show. The medals start today. We’re off and running.

I agree with Joanne, although I must admit I was disappointed that there was nary a bagpipe in sight! The Queen parachuting in was HILARIOUS! What a good sport! And what an amazing experience for you, DM. Amy, glad to see you brought the sun back with you! Cyclers look like they have a beautiful day.

Can’t say we stayed awake for much of it (that happens at our age!), but what we did see looked great. Glad you had such a great time, and thanks for your updates.

BTW, DM, looks like you had a darn good seat! Definitely worth the four hour wait.

Amy could you refresh my memory about which events you’re going to so I can make sure to watch them?

So…an ENTIRE day with no postings by our London correspondents??? I know DM and 2012 Host are performing their Olympic duties, and Amy only slept for about twelve minutes despite her happy pills, but REALLY, people? According to photographic evidence on Facebook, Amy and DM had time for a meal. Judging by the amount of food on the table in front of Joe, they may still be there. Let’s get our priorities in order, please! Blog comes first, and work, sightseeing, sleep and food don’t even make the medal platform! 🙂 thank you from your adoring public.

Ok, Ok! hope to get something posted by tonight. Amy is on her way to gymnastics. She is taking the scenic route: taking a boat on the Thames. Got a text from her as she was passing under Tower Bridge and the Olympic rings.

Don’t get crazy…you are allowed to sleep occasionally! (Although probably not for twelve hours, as your guest did; however, in her defense, she hadn’t slept in a LONG time.) Sounds like Amy is packing a lot into her day…I miss being young and able to do that without intermittent naps! Seems like despite the workload, you might be enjoying yourself as well – I hope so! I was initially puzzled by the tan vest as a fashion statement, but then during the men’s gymnastic event, I saw a HUGE bunch of photographers wearing the same one, so then it made more sense to me!
P.S. No doubt you are surprised by the kind tone of my comment today. Please don’t get used to it. And we have yet to hear from Twonka or Vyse Guy!

It would seem that Amy is not meeting her resposibilities as a blog correspondent!! Amy, it is your duty (to those of us left behind) to keep us posted on your experiences. 🙂 Sounds like you’re getting to do lots of wonderful things. Enjoy!

    Amy,
Don’t let them pressure you. Great art (like wine) takes time — and you have to pace yourself or you’ll burn out too soon.
I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Speaking of wine…I’m almost off duty. Cheerio!

I hope you all had a good weekend! I will prepare a report on the road races. I had a blast though it was not a cakewalk with some organizational mixup and jockeying for power/decisions between volunteer teams on Saturday for the men’s race, and rain on and off for the women’s race. Glad you all enjoyed the Opening Ceremony – I can’t wait to watch it again! @Amy, I will give you a call later – some tickets you may be interested in. I hope you and DM enjoyed Wahaca – I think that’s where a dinner photo was taken. Love that place!
