Olympic Park
Olympic Park, home to many of the venues, the MPC (main press center), the IBC (international broadcast center) and very soon, many thousands of spectators.
The 500-acre park is also home to the athletes’ village and the Orbit, an art installation that will likely see some of the longest lines of the Games. The jury is out on whether the Orbit itself is worth looking at but the views from the top of it are said to be spectacular: both of the park and the city skyline in the distance.
I ventured over there today because the demanding consumers of this blog would want to see these views. But it was locked. I’ll keep checking, but maybe when Amy gets here she could make her way up the 375-foot sculpture and snap a few shots for Eat at Joes. Amy will find, as Anne did in Vancouver and Leah is now that your free time is not your own when blog posts await.
You have to feed the beast!
A walk through the park at sunset last last night and again today around noon offers a glimpse at what awaits the throngs who will descend.
It’s a big place, with lots of concrete, but it is softened nicely with grass, trees and acres of wildflowers.
A River runs through it.
The weather has been perfect, I hope London gets a few days like these once the the torch is lit.

Great shot of the Velodrome! An especially exciting place considering the result of the Tour de France yesterday. I can’t wait to see the stadium and the park on Wednesday night!
Ahhhh, I’m so excited!!!
Our Volunteer at Large could not have gotten a better assignment, me thinks! And Joe’s entry. I was there. Three generations of St. Thomas of CANTERBURY grads/bloggers taught rudimentary writing skills by doddering Dominicans. Who would have thought we’d come this far? Doddering Suzette
Um, Amy, Are you excited!
Just a little… 🙂

We thought we’d better get a post up so it doesn’t look like we’re too busy having fun swimming in the ocean (3 times!!!), eating lobster and blueberry pie, drinking gin and tonics, doing puzzles — crosswords and jigsaw, hitting balls (Steven) and taking naps. But the beautiful wildflowers remind us of our own backyard and we are happy for you guys that the venue looks fun and interesting and that you have sunshine there.
We wish we were there or vice-versa. : – )
@ Queen Anne’s Lace. I noticed that you have given yourself a promotion from princess!
Also, i added a picture to the gallery just for you.
Lovely pics! Amy I am so excited to live vicariously through you for the next two weeks! And to all in London for the games, please as always remember to give Matt Lauer my best if you happen upon him. Happy Olympic Week!!!
Joe, great pictures, and what beautiful venues! Cannot wait for these games to start. Must be SO exciting to be there, Joe and Leah. I don’t know how the heck you’re going to contain Amy! She has another week, and she’s already beside herself (not that I blame her!) Love, love, love the wildflowers. And Your Majesty Queen Anne (I’d better practice my curtsey!), I agree…it looks like our – er, YOUR – backyard.
Great pix, Buck! Gam wants toknow how the food is.
@G&P I haven’t had the chance to venture too far yet. So mostly have eaten at the MPC and the hotel, which are fine. May have dinner with Leah tonight.
Wonderful graphic on the 4×100 relay today, Joe. It’s amazing that so much goes into what appears to be a simple handoff!
